Battle Creek Hike 2014

Today is the start of the 2014 hiking season for us!  Chris and I are now preparing for our next adventure!  We have our sights set on Half Dome in Yosemite National park.  We got up early got packed and when Maui our white German Shepard  noticed her back pack was out she went nuts!  She loves to hike and could not wait to get in the Jeep! We met up with our good friend Dr Lane and  his hiking group.   They are an adult singles group that was kind enough  to let us join in.  A real fun and exciting group!  It is fun to get to meet new friends! This hike is  just east of Pleasant Grove Utah  and it is amazing.  To get there get  on 2nd south in Pleasant Grove and head east.  You will pass PG high school on your right as you head east.  Keep heading east until the road ends at a dirt parking lot.  There you will find a park for gatherings.  There is a pit toilet but go before you leave!  It is nasty.
This a the trail head

You will start on a dirt road and continue  to work  your way on the dirt road east.  You will follow the creek most of the hike.  In about a mile you will cross the creek and come to a very nice water fall

The falls are a favorite for site for climbers in the summer and ice climbing in the winter.

As you continue up the trail it narrows and become relatively steep.

You are in a tree cover  up to a second set of water falls then  the trail opens and a breath taking view of Battle Creek.  The trail gets even steeper and climbs and climbs and climbs.  Trail markers are along the way to keep you on task.

Eventually the tail mellows and you walk in to this grass meadow  that has outstanding views of Mt Timp from the west side.

You will end up at Mt Timp Road and this will take you to Glover Creek.  At the top of Glover Creek is a natural spring bubbling right out of the ground!  This is a great hike you will cover about 7+ miles and the elevation gain up is over 3,000 vertical feet!  Truly a great way to start the season.  I can wait for the snow to melt.  I found out that Mt Timp Road is accessible from American Fork Canyon!  I will be back in the Jeep to add to my collection of wilderness photos!
I highly recommend this hike!  Enjoy!  See you on the trail!  Life is too short not to get out an live IT!
